Our Inspiration
Northern Michigan Candle Company is a small, women-owned business inspired to capture the beauty and essence of Northern Michigan in every candle we create. our home base is in Charlevoix, aptly nicknamed "Charlevoix the Beautiful" due to its breathtaking landscapes, which serve as the perfect inspiration for our hand-poured 100% soy candles and the other small towns that make Northern Michigan so unique.
Our Candles Ingredients
Northern Michigan Candle Company candles are hand-poured with 100% soy wax, a cotton wick, and a blend of our secret mix of phthalate-free fragrance oils (none of that bad stuff like toxins & dyes in our candles, (would you expect anything less from Northern Michigan?). We also love that soy is a carbon-neutral and renewable resource, meaning it is cleaner and has longer burns than paraffin wax (win!).
Our Candle Making Process
Every Northern Michigan Candle Company is hand-poured in small batches.
Why soy candles?
We love that our candles are hand-poured with 100% soy wax, a cotton wick, and a blend of our secret mix of phthalate-free fragrance oils (none of that bad stuff like toxins and dyes in our candles, would you expect anything less from Northern Michigan?). We also love that soy is also carbon neutral and a renewable resource, meaning a cleaner longer burn than paraffin wax (win, win!)
What’s the best way to burn Northern Michigan Candles?
Trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch so it will not mushroom (candle term for curl).
Have the melt pool reach the edges of the jar before extinguishing, by doing this your candle will not tunnel (candle term of the built-up wax on the sides)
The best way to extinguish your candle is to use a wick snuffer (or dipper, same thing). Don’t use water or your fingers; that’s just not safe.
Never leave the candle unattended. Make sure your candle is out of reach of kids, pets, and drafts (or lake breeze)! Check out the bottom warning label on your candle. We want you to be safe while enjoying Northern Michigan Candles.

“Bringing Northern Michigan Home to you” is our slogan, tagline, and motto we strive for! We want our scents to remind you of God’s creation and bring back the memories of your times spent with family and friends while living/visiting Northern Michigan. Our 8-ounce candle scent fills an average-sized room (for larger rooms, use the designer rule of three, which is more pleasing to the eye). Stay tuned. We will offer a 16-ounce candle soon.

It’s just a click away on our website, or stop at one of these fabulous stores in Northern Michigan (to help build the economy in Northern Michigan, we have chosen to be in one store per town). Oh, and look for us at craft shows and markets; stop by and say hi!
Do you donate products back to the community?
We believe in giving back to Northern Michigan and have dedicated 10% of our proceeds to local charities in Northern Michigan (given out once a year in December - Merry Christmas!!). If you are a charity and would like to submit a proposal, please contact us! Also, we get it. We have six kids between the both of us and have been involved in fundraisers for schools, churches, and community organizations. Contact us, and we can see what we can do!
Yikes, my candle broke in shipping….!!!
We box our candles nice and tight, but accidents happen. Please send us an email, and we will work it out. Also, please give us a description of the damage so we can troubleshoot this so it doesn’t happen again.
